EXERT FROM APPENDIX 1 from Don Featherstone's Battles With Model Soldiers
(The book that got me started.)

"Nothing in these pages is a dictate, no word says you must or you shall do it this way. On the contrary, the book sets out from the very beginning to stimulate the reader to think for himself, and to use what he has read merely as a foundation for efforts and ideas which reflect his own temperament and character. Only in this way will he obtain maximum satisfaction from the hobby of battling with model soldiers."

Dust clouds on the horizon

At last! A game in view!  Not technically a Battlegame of the month as the scenario won't be one of the Battlegames magazine ones but a game none the less. Back around Christmas, several of us got together to play a 15mm Western desert scenario using Command Decison V, Test of Battle. Saturday night if all goes well, Brits and Italians will meet again in a replay the same scenario but using Blitzkrieg Commander 2.

Martin's cruisers to the rescue.
Then if the world unfolds according to plan, I expect to try Boating on the River as a solo mid-19thC game later next week.
(These pictures were shot last year during the trial run of the sister steamboats made for the Faraway Trading Company out of scraps of this and that. )

  1. Boating On The River sounds highly promising, even at this time of year!

Love the boats, and their names :-)

  2. I do so like those river boats... I'd follow this blog just to see them once more in action, thrashing up the Nile, shewing the local gentry what's what, what? I like their names, too. Wonderful!

  3. Ross,

I hadn't realized that you'd graduated to blogging. I've been reading and enjoying your back posts . . . and have added your blogs to the Emperor vs Elector's "Other Blogs of Interest" list.

Great stuff, my friend, I like what you're doing a lot.

  4. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that I really LOVE the "Cat General" photo that adorns the top of this blog.

  6. Thanks Jeff. You want to watch out for Hector, he's a mean die roller. Of course he tends to get distracted and chases the dice under the table rather than paying attention to the game but he always takes the high ground. (nothing like styrafoam for a comfortable nap).

  7. Steve, Archduke, Tim, thanks for the comments on the boats. hopefully they'll be in action on the 28th (squeek!). Since the project is several years behind schedule, the hordes of 'natives' will be the disciplined bluebellies of Oberhilse.
