Normal service should resume by the end of the weekend.

In the meantime, here is a rather vague picture of a test game using Huns and other riffraff to stand in as Turks as preparations for Huzzah 2019 gain momentum.

Born and raised in the suburbs of Montreal 7 decades ago. Began playing with toy soldiers at 5 years. Started painting & converting at about 12 yrs and wargaming about 15 yrs. Never really stopped.
5 years in the Black Watch of Canada Cadets, 5 years at the Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean followed by 4 in the navy. 25 years with CPC in IT simultaneous with 23 years running a boarding kennel. Inherited my love of toy soldiers from my mother's father. Married with a pack of litle Italian Greyhounds and a cat. Prematurely retired and enjoying leisure to game, maintaining our 170 yr old farmhouse and just living.
Your blog is, as ever, a treasure house of good things - always entertaining and interesting, and frequently very educational. A great favourite of mine.
ReplyDeleteAll the best with the DIY on the table. Although they are less frequent than the battle reports, the posts on the continuing evolution and re-design of your table-of-choice also provide a prominent sub-plot here. I intend to look again at that siege post you pointed me to recently - that'll keep me going nicely.
Educational as in "Don't do this"?
DeleteRoss Mac,
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know that your wargame table is going through yet another re-build. I take a slightly different approach and adjust my games to fit on my table rather than adjusting the table to fit my games ... but as I am terrible at doing DIY, this is the most sensible thing to do!
Good luck with your alterations,
Bob
Bob, I do actually fit the game to the table, but the table and the game both have to fit to the room and do so in accordance with the other, varying uses the game must accommodate. The current work was envisaged at the start of the year but it was too much to do at once and there were questions that needed to be answered by trial so this is actually Phase III in a 5 year(ish) plan.
DeleteRoss,
ReplyDeleteWell done on tackling the Games Table renovation. With reference to your very large portfolio of past Blog entries. This may/or may not suit you...in the past with my Blog I've managed to somehow 'revise' it- to the extent that only what I'm currently working on and thinking about is listed...I've purposely 'deleted' past years of Blog entries -just mainly to preserve my own sanity. I do not know- but 'trimming' what I had seems to make an accessible site for my followers. 'Labels' being the most important. Cheers. KEV.
Thanks Kev, I like being able to access my old posts. Sometimes just for the pleasure of revisiting memories, sometimes as a reminder of "been there, done that", sometimes of a reminder of good ideas or plans put away for "later".
DeleteAs usual what you do here brings me great pleasure Ross, you never stop fiddling around and tweaking things :)
ReplyDeleteIts cheap entertainment! (and easier to store!)
DeleteBravo for tackling the table, l hope you will be pleased with the results.
ReplyDeleteAlan
Its nice to be able to lean on it when necessary.
DeleteAlan is right. You should be leased and happy about where you play as much as you are with the figures and terrain with which you spend your time.

DeleteAbsolutely, and with the surrounding area and how it all fits together. Still lots to do but most can be done an hour here or there come winter.
