Born and raised in the suburbs of Montreal 7 decades ago. Began playing with toy soldiers at 5 years. Started painting & converting at about 12 yrs and wargaming about 15 yrs. Never really stopped.
5 years in the Black Watch of Canada Cadets, 5 years at the Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean followed by 4 in the navy. 25 years with CPC in IT simultaneous with 23 years running a boarding kennel. Inherited my love of toy soldiers from my mother's father. Married with a pack of litle Italian Greyhounds and a cat. Prematurely retired and enjoying leisure to game, maintaining our 170 yr old farmhouse and just living.
I assume the sand bags were cheap plastic ones, if so l must say they look very good on the table top. If they are scratch built, apologies.

Yes from $Store bags of "armymen". I have 3 or 4 variations, mostly poor, under scale copies of old Marx ones which fortunately work well enough with 40's.
DeleteI don't know why, but I find the mix of cavalry and motor vehicles together quite appealing. That poor fellow on the ground - was he thrown from his horse? Shot from the saddle? Looking forward to the battle report!

DeleteOutpost/Frontier duty can be dodgy stuff: days and weeks of routine and then....
ReplyDeleteThe arrival of camera crews is always worrisome for an outpost....
DeleteI have to agree that mixing cavalry and motor vehicles has a certain appeal - seems to give games more of a 'toys for fun' feel rather than 'everything has to be dead accurate'. Though obviously in many scenarios both statements might be true!
ReplyDeleteTransition periods are always interesting, but of course, while I hadn't thought of it before, this is set dead on for the original Little Wars. Must be extra brownie pts for that surely?
