Another Bridge Too Far? (Conclusion)

Now the fighting became serious.

The fighting was noisy and bloody!

At last the Scots marched on, and were sent to clear the left flank. The Emigres were ordered to support the riflemen in the town by the far bridge.
(No dice here, the ...ummh, British player... forgot to move them on to the table for 2 turns! (head slap!)

Order/Counter Order! The Emigres were ordered to halt and wait for new orders as the French had concentrated their forces and stormed the 1st bridge while at the ford, the French infantry deployed and opened fire, daring the British to try crossing!

The British General spotted a fault in the French plan and seizing the initiative, (ie a red card came up giving the British the first move this turn.) ordered the Highlanders to advance towards the bridge, and the Dragoons to charge the flank of the French line! The French broke and ran back through the column just crossing the bridge. The Dragoons pursued, and the battle was over.
(The French had had so many 1st move cards that...'their general' hadn't expected that!)

Now....hmm....what should I play next?

    1. I try not to be biased and by the end I was sure they were going to lose, ( which is probably why the French got a bit slack with an open flank) but the Coalition got the 1st move for a change and then rolled an outrageous number of the 6's that had been missing much of the game, while the French seem to have used up all of their 5's&6's. Of course the British general was fond of telling the tale at dinners and parties of his clever maneuvers.

    1. Thanks! Mostly Prince August homecast with my own heads for the late 18thC and a few complete conversions from other sources, so rather dear to my heart.

    1. Alas, Despite their desire to get stuck in, it was their bad luck to just fire a few long range shots to encourage the enemy gun across the river to pull back a little farther, and to frighten a few skirmishers into falling back over the bridge.

  6. Seems like another good game. Always nice when the 'right' side wins of course!

  7. Thanks for another good looking game. I love the figures and the amount of terrain looks to have added interest to the action. Which version of your rules are you using these days?

    1. I have a page with current versions of my home rules and some old abandoned ones, but I've been having a frustrating time getting that page to reappear! Anyway, I finally worked it out and once again, there is now a page of links to rules. The link is up at the top right and needs more work now that it has reappeared.
