So Far...

..so good. About 1/2 done.

1/2 Done.
(Is it just me or does the bald but bearded guy bear an eerie resemblance to Graham McTavish in his role of Dougal MacKenzie.)

I have vague memories of another blogger, or maybe a pre-blog webpage, writing about how weakening eyes and increasingly shaky hands was reducing the pleasure of painting miniatures.  Well, over this last year, its begun, a bit at a time. Luckily, I'm fine with simple painting with less detail etc and have found that the reduction in sight also means not noticing the simpler painting style or all but the worst slips or twitches of the brush, or omissions of some detail etc.

So: "balance in all things".

Certainly not a stand I'd want to mess with.

Eyesight. I find myself more drawn to well-sculpted figures where washes and drybrushes do much of the work. Altering the regiment of old Scruby 30mm British Napoleonic hussars--my current project--is seriously annoying. But I'll still tackle 2mm blocks with 5/0 glasses and liberal application of the Two Foot Rule.

    1. 5mm is the smallest I've ever gone and my 22mm ACW are now my equivalent.

  4. More shaky hands than eyesight with me so I find it useful to support my right hand on a rod as signwriters do (possibly did?). And I use washes and dry brushing more than I used to. Plus most of the friends I game with are my sort of age so they probably can't see the detail either :-)

    1. I picked up washes from something Peter Guilder wrote, back in my late teens and its been a main technique ever since. (bless him) Bigger figures sure help though.
