Victoria Rifles Recruitment Drive Continues

I had to go out for most of today but I had a little time early on and there was the new mould, just waiting to be tried out. Well........
Two new castings  to paint and some 20 year veterans to wash and touch up before I base and flock them.

The mould came out pretty well despite having some rough texture but while I was cleaning off the Plasticine  prior to pouring the second half, I dropped it and the Officer's head vanished into thin air on the first bounce. ARGHHH!

After an extensive search I gave up. The face part with peak and moustache was already set so I popped a pillbox cap head into the hole and hoped for the best. It didn't turn out as good as the original but its use-able with a bit of filing and I only need one or two anyway, the Rebel officers will be using kepis or broad brimmed campaign hats and some of the Queen's officers will be in Shako.

A very glare-y first casting.

  1. Having spent a good quarter of an hour trying to poke a plastic arm for a Samurai from under the computer table helped by a cat and a dog (who I think thought it a mouse) I know your pain of dropped bits of figures.

    1. I've certainly had some odd ones. I once had a turret from a 1/2 built Centurion go missing. 10 years later its still a mystery but it happened at our old house so is unlikely to ever be solved.

  2. Recruitment coming along well.
I find that dice vanish when rolled off the table carelessly very easily.

  3. It’s so easy ‘to lose your head’. A couple of days ago, I was admiring a Zouave regiment that i have prepped ready for painting and noticed the drummers head missing, only to find that it had dropped and been caught by the drum gear, so panic turned to ‘phew’! In a metter of seconds.

I’m sure you will find your head .... but only once you have made a new one and you are walking around in bare feet!

    1. Never say never but I feel that it would be more likely if it was in the actual house rather than my tool shed. Luckily its not an important or irreplaceable piece.
