Officer on Parade

This seemed like a good time to finish a proper commander for the Fort Henry Guard.
(Note to self: You really do need to harmonize the basing size, style and colour for this collection.)

This figure began life as a Trooper in the Life Guards. Somewhere around 1971, a youthful me converted him into a 1900 Canadian infantry officer in dress white spiked helmet based on an illustration in a book. More recently he has served on the tabletop as Colonel Marten but the helmet style just didn't fit so I decided that it should be replaced. I wanted to keep as much of his nearly 50 yr old repaint as possible so just swapped his plastic Eyes Right helmet for a homecast FHG Shako and repainted his lace silver instead of gold.

A new head warrants a new name and so henceforth he shall be known as Colonel Ross.

  1. His troops will follow him to the gates of hell (or the end of the table-whichever comes first!)

  2. It seems a good time of year for command figure conversions :) Love the history behind your figures!

  3. They all look rather splendid. The differing bases do not detract from the look, but rather show this is a collection gathered and adapted over time, a bit like their leader Colonel Ross.

  4. Ross,
A superb collection you have made for your Canadians- well done Ross. Yes, it is good to have made a leader that when converted looks so much the part. I'm hoping that my yet to be finished sculpts for my Retro Star Trek turn out as good as your 54mm Soldiers. Cheers. KEV.

  6. A fine commander of a fine unit Ross. I also enjoy the background stories behind your collection.

  7. Valiant fellows all! Perhaps you could justify (not that you would have to--it's your army) that the lads on the split stands in front have also been trained as highly effective skirmishers and crack shots!

    1. Alan, are you insinuating that some of my soldiers AREN'T crack shots? :)

  8. But of course! Aren't all our armies composed of such paragons? It's only those tricky and sometimes uncooperative dice that keep them from always showing their mettle.

    1. Yes of course though I'd swear I've occasionally heard muttering about the bumbling fool who ordered them to try to do such & such when they thought I wasn't listening.
