Capt Jinks Rides to War

The rapid expansion of Rebel forces has left them short of Brigadiers. So it was that when Captain Jinks reported for duty and was overheard boasting about how he had never lost a battle, he was swiftly promoted to Acting Brigadier of Cavalry.
Captain Jinks, never able to resist demonstrating his charm and wit to the fair sex, even on his way to battle, does get the sort of response he had hoped for.

Of course, the merest inquiry would have revealed that he'd never even seen a battle.

The battle is now lost and won,
but alas the report is not yet done.

  1. Very engaging back story. I suppose the product of the immediate promotion could be popularly referred to as something of a “Hijink” :)

  2. Captain Jinks cuts a very fine figure, but it looks like he is getting doused down with a bucket of water.

    1. Well, now you mention it, the song might have inspired MacDonald Fraser to look for and publish Flashmen's papers.

  4. His rapid rise to prominence is reminiscent of the meteoric ascent of one George Armstrong Custer. Let us hope his personal story concludes on a happier note!

    1. Headstrong courage is not an attribute mentioned in the song about him.

  5. Jinks sure cuts a fine figure, even if he is a bit of a blowhard on the quiet. I`m interested to see how he fares on the field.

I was admiring your stretcher and women nurses :-)

    1. Just watch where you are standing while you are admiring.

(The bucket woman is a resin figure from the Ron Barzso Davy Crocket fort playset.

  6. Given the woman's reaction of tossing a bucket of water (at least, I hope it's water) in his direction, perhaps the men waving swords behind him are in fact chasing him?

  7. Brevet Brigadier General Jinks was 'hoping' for a short sharp shower of --- uh... errm --- a short sharp shower?
