The mind will wander.
I do try though to not imagine my stacks of winter firewood as revetted entrenchments while I work.
If not, then it should be favorable for the first outside game of the year!

That brings back fond memories of my posting at CFB Greenwood. Bought a house in Kingston, learned to heat with wood. I wish I'd known you then, you would have made stacking wood more fun. Do you cover the wood for the winter?
ReplyDeleteJust missed I think. We bought the house in 2005 in prep for retirement but didn't move in full time till 2010. Still not that much farther.
DeleteI've been experimenting with how ways to store wood, starting by finding as many wrongways as possible. I keep roughly a cord in my work/wood/storage shed (An almost waterproof galzanized tin garage with gravel floor. And the rest stacked outside. In previous years I've tried various ways of tarping but am coming to think that ventilation is more important. So this year, I might leave them uncovered or cover just the tops and leave the sides to breathe (and save the shed stuff for heavy rain weeks). What's life without learning?
I can see you have your own form of Motti tactics!
ReplyDeleteNot quite sure what that is, even after googling, so hopefully its sorta good?
DeleteSorry, poor attempt at humour! Motti is a Finnish word for a stack of wood roughly a metre cubed. Often stacked by the roadside for collection later. The term was applied to Finnish tactics in the Winter War when they would stop Soviet columns and pierce them in different places thus isolating groups of Soviet troops ready to be picked off.
DeleteNo need to apologize for my ignorance! That's actually fairly applicable!
DeleteI learned something as well!
DeleteLooks like a defensible position. Your version of Ross' Drift?
ReplyDeleteNetter that than "All Quiet on the Western Front!"
DeleteMr. Speelman prides himself recently constructing a backyard shed. You might try praising his accomplishment in this as well as promising to let him win a game if he slips down to Ye Aulde NS to build you a shed as well. Sheds are great places for firewood storage. You may have to put Walter up for a few days while he completes this little project...or he could be asked to sleep in the shed whilst being under construction. (To add to the incentive.)
ReplyDeleteI gotta shed, well, ex garage now storage shed/workshop, used to use it for firewood but it actually does better outside. I do keep a cord in the shed in case of a rainy Feb thaw.
DeleteSo, he'll have to win his game legit if he drops by.
