Since the 3d figures from Day of Battles don't come with bases, I decided to mount them on their wargame base before painting. Luckily, my highlanders are all 3 to a base as a reminder that they are in a looser formation than the pikemen and billmen.
Not trusting a straight glue bond with such a small contact area, I drilled holes in the soles of their feet and the base and inserted wire pegs to reinforce the glue. Should make them a bit more awkward to paint but not too much so. Anyway, one stand at a time these days, just don't have the patience or the back stamina for large batches anymore.
Thankfully, being early to mid 16thC, tartan belted plaids are not yet a "thing" so it'll be linen or wool tunics and woolen cloaks, which might have an early tartan pattern.
Lovely figures, looking forward to seeing them in action…

Not sure if these lads will hit the table as soon as they are painted, or if I'll do 3 or 4 more stands first. We'll see how the painting goes!
Delete3D printing is quietly altering the face of wargaming, very nice figures and I'm amazed at the amount of them out there on ebay etc.
ReplyDeleteAlas they are of modern sculpting style. Wouldn't I love some new Elastolin style/scale figures to reinforce Prince Valiant!
DeleteYou can't do much about the style, but if they are 3D printed, it should be possible to get them printed at a scale reduction so the height, at least, would match with the Elastolins.
DeleteNot sure what that would cost me but it's not needed since these are reinforcements for my Rough Wooing Scots and they fit pretty well with the bulky sculpting of the Meisterzinn bodies and heads.
DeleteSuperb looking figures. You will have fun painting them. Looking forward to seeing the final result.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteFantastic figures Ross
ReplyDeleteLots of life and character, bit more legend that accurate but I'm ok with that.
DeleteThese are rather nice toys…
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing them painted .
All the best. Aly
