Botched Relief

Having finished my jigsaw puzzle, and with the two new stands of Scots being almost table ready, I figured it was time to pick a scenario.

The English deploy for battle.

Flipping through the One Hour book, I noticed the Botched Relief scenario (#28) which I've only played once. Suddenly seemed just the thing. A small English force needs to capture a town despite being outnumbered by the Scots. The catch for the Scots is that the bulk of their force, which is on a ridge ready to flank any attack, is having command and control issues and can only be committed one formation at a time.

The Highlanders, supported by artillery, are defending the village.

and here's my proof that the puzzle was solved and not just quietly packed away so I could use my table again:

Minnow did her best to "help".

  1. That looks a tough jigsaw with all those similar colours. I have just picked up a Christmas Advent family Jigsaw, not seen one before, basically, starting December 1st, you open one advent box and it contains 42 pieces of jigsaw and will do one part of the picture, after the 24 days of opening boxes, you get the full picture.

The back of each piece is numbered, so it can all be packed away back into the correct advent boxes for re-use. Whatever will those clever people think of next!

That’s a fine English line, but those highlanders seem a determined bunch - enjoy.

    1. It wasn't as hard as it might be for some, not only is my wife's hobby dog showing and breeding and her home business dog grooming but for 40 years we lived in small clearings in woods. So , we ran a boarding kennel for 20 years so, when I would look at a piece, it didn't take long to figure out which wolf, and which part of the wolf it was from, head, ruff, hindquarters etc. The artist knew his stuff.

    1. Thanks. I think this may be only the 2nd time I've played it.

  3. I once completed a jigsaw of a dozen Dalmatian puppies against a white background...which is not far off your snow scene. Well done Sir!

As for the scenario sounds a challenge...especially if there is no Mel Gibson modifiers.

  5. It's always good to see the 16th century 40mm troops on the table. You're using the current version of Gathering of Hosts as the rules. Let us know how that goes ...

  6. A challenging scenario with the limited attacking force offset by the restrictions on the defender. Curious how the rules differences between yours and OHW will impact the way it plays out. Certainly in OHW the defender has the easier task in some eras (like in Medieval, holding the town with Men-at-Arms means they take 1/4 damage, Dark Ages infantry would have the same bonus ) and it's a matter of running out the clock.
