Oh Well....

..At least I tried.

By the time I had played through roughly half the game, I'd had my fill of the gridded game, soooooooo...........

A quick shuffle here and there, a few tweaks to the off grid rules I used for the last couple of Oberhilse and Faraway games, and things are going smoothly again.

  1. As long as you had fun. Never tried gridded games as such - just Cadet Commander which doesn't really count (https://easterngarrison.blogspot.com/p/cadet-commander.html ) - keep thinking about it though.

  2. I'm with Rob, whatever makes for an enjoyable game. As a long-time rules tinkerer I enjoy trying out different approaches but it's also nice just to settle down to a game with a rules set that you know you enjoy.

I officially blame (or credit) Joe Morschauser for all squares and hexes, but that that's probably anglophonism. There are reports of French miniatures on hexagons as early as WWII.
