Recruits in Training

They have a way to go but at least they are now  in training.

York Hussars, served in Flanders and the West Indies. How convenient is that?

I'm still miffed that having decided to start paying a lttle more for my paints again, that the line I chose to sample are actually glossy without any indication on the label.  Yes I know, I  was planning to gloss varnish them anyway but.......

    1. hm. A particularly visceal response. I remember once accidentally spraying some ACW figures with gloss coat. (oops.) It beas accidentally spraying some medieval horsemen with white primer. (It's owner for years told everyone they'd just come through a snowstorm before he finally got up the gumption to touch up the damage.

    2. Yup, done the primer thing, luckily there were no nuns in the vicinity.

I shouldn't really mind the gloss since I've been doing these figures as old school glossy but it just looks odd next to all that non glossy paint (matte would be too strong a word) and the first coat didn't cover well. What I'm really annoyed about was the bottles not being labelled 'gloss' as I had been hemming and hawing between a different known and liked brand that I haven't bought in a while, and these!

    1. I was tempted to buy one or both of the other poses so as to mix them up but they do look both dashing and disciplined charging in the same eager pose.

  3. I always feel gloss paints don't cover as well as matt. Figures seem to be coming along well.

    1. It took 2 coats and a little something mixed in to tone the colour down but I think they'll come out ok.

  4. Can't wait to see the finished product though. They already look good to my eyes.

    1. A touch of dash and glamour! (Don't think I'd have ever made it as an hussar officer.)

    1. Golden. The only one of their paints I had tried before but was a great Metallic colour.

  7. Looks like they are on their way, Ross. And like you said, both Flanders and the Caribbean. I think they are coming along nicely.

    1. Had a head slapping moment when I realized that I had done the same unit in 15mm back in the early 80’s.

  8. Most vexing when something as basic as the finish gets left off the label (thinking back to how annoying the--now discontinued--Model Master Enamel "Federal Stock Number" [FS] line did not indicate whether the finish might be satin, matte, or whatever). Anyway, really like the look of the Emigre Hussars (both the lines of the figs and the main color scheme).

    1. I still miss my old Ceramcoat paints which suddenly disappeared from the stores. They do stand out from the regular British troops.
