Patience Is A Virtue

For a long list of boring reasons, this week I've not done any painting or playing or rules tinkering or....well OK I have rearranged my games room and replaced the crappy little painting desk I've been using  for an old kitchen table (my 1st piece of furniture from my first apartment back in '77 awwwww). Its not ideal but its higher so my back is not crouched over and its bigger and its in a spot with better light for my old eyes.....   but that's not the important thing for today.

After disappearing off the international tracking system for a month, my Birthday present from Prince August (Is it still a present if you ordered and paid for it...) has finally reappeared on the screen and is in now finally in Canada! It is currently being paddled and portaged  across country and should be delivered next Wednesday.

See that little spare head with the false front? It may not be perfect but does anyone think I won't get away with fudging it as a 1793 Austrian infantry cap? I'll need different bodies to easily fudge a closed coat without lapels but the firing pose with open lapelled coat will come in handy for some French, German and Emigre units with bicorne, roundhat, helmet or bearskin as appropriate.

  1. The extra head sure looks like it could pass as an Austrian casquet. And, nothing wrong with giving yourself a gift.

  2. Am tempted by this new lot of PA figure moulds .

    1. All the ones I've bought have been really well made with and most of the figures are really well done. (A few, like the Cuirassiers, arty and French have been a little larger than I would have liked)

  3. Rearranging of the games room is a cathartic experience in my opinion.

The addition of a "vintage" kitchen table is the icing on the cake. How many of your troops started life on that table?

    1. Not many, it spent 40 years fulfilling its function until replaced by my grandmother's table now exploring its second century.

    1. My eyes have been officislly dodgy for 50 years but its just the usual old age thing happening now so that strong reading glasses have become compulsory painting equipment.

    1. A sign of optimism, takes time to get the most of them....

  6. That looks a much more useful mould for French Revolution than Seven Years War! Good kasket and quite a late looking coat....

    1. Not sure about the bayonets if they are jaegers.... but its easier to remove bayonets than to add sturdy ones. A very useful edition to the range.

    I hope so. That's what I do.
    Happy Birthday to you!

  9. The Prince August moulds look very august. (Too bad you couldn't have ordered 'em earlier last August.)

I've sculpted, modified, scratch-built, pinned, affixed, carved, scraped, and sanded many figures in my time ...
...but I draw the line on the tabletop at casting! I doff my casquet to you, sah.

    1. I would have ordered them in time for my birthday but had to wait until they were released.

Done all of those things, casting is easier, and then you get to do all the rest anyway.

  10. My painting table is not quite as vintage, but by coincidence it is similarly a "first" kitchen table: in my case, it was among the first pieces of furniture (after a bed to sleep in) that I acquired when starting over after my divorce (back in '89). Still re-arranging my game room as well (but then again, who isn't?).

    1. Rearranging is much cheaper and less expensive than moving! This table has been coast to coast with me, through 2 marriages, several careers and who remembers how many homes. A good sturdy bit of Canadian maple it is.

  11. My, those model pictures look crisp! I agree with Jonathan Freitag: the alternate head's headgear looks very like the Austrian casquet. Come to think of it, although aware that Austrian fusiliers were wearing the casquet during the 1790s, I didn't know the Austrian light troops were wearing such headgear as far back as the 7YW.

Seems the COVID gig has been scrambling mail delivery serices all over. A book arrived here yesterday that I ordered 3 months back...
    Cheers,\

    1. I'm not sure when the Austrians added jaegers or what they wore but I'm glad PA included the head so I wouldn't have to make one.

  13. It looks more like a 1793 Austrian hat than my hand-filed grenadier mitres do; I should see what other Prince August I want and put in an order.
