A bit rushed but they're ready for action.
I also took the liberty of swapping in a few figures from the stores chest to give these two guns a bit of extra personality, easily recognized on the table. The mounted officers are actually going to be Brigadiers, something else I am little short on at the moment.
All in all, I am rather pleased with them at arms length!
Thanks David!
If they look good at arm's length, Ross, then they look good. And a rushed job is better than no job, which is my usual sin.
ReplyDeleteIt helps that 20mm is now my 15mm equivalent or smaller as my eyes blurr!
DeleteGreat to see these Airfix fellows in action…
ReplyDeleteIn many ways they are the equivalent of "comfort food"
DeleteLooks terrific to me, and so quick. Did you have a snow day?
ReplyDeleteNo, brilliant sunshine for a bit meaning time for 4-5 hours of chopping and removing 2" of ice that had been under the 8" of wet snow. Painting during the breaks.
DeleteThey look splendid. I wish my Airfix ACW troops had looked as good when I was just starting out in wargaming. The thing I could never understand about the infantry was why they had been modelled with ammunition pouches and straps, rather than the leather cartridge pouch, when Airfix kits and other sets of figures were far more accurate.
ReplyDeleteMy guess was they were an american subject, so not as familiar? Source material wasn't as widespread then either.
DeleteOld, but effective. I can see me incorporating some Airfix figures into my Rose armies at some stage.
ReplyDelete"Old but effective" like some wargamers of my acquaintance.
DeleteSo good to see the old AIRFIX Artillery ACW Set- brings back a lot of memories.
ReplyDeleteClassic
DeleteThey look lovely Ross. Good to see the Ordnance Department and the Quartermaster Department were able to be so efficient in the equipping of those batteries.
ReplyDeleteEric
Took a couple of broken axles to get them moving.
DeleteThat was quick! And nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks, if I hadn't been so tired from chopping ice, it would have been as fast but with slightly more care. Stll, as part of a host at arms length, they'll do just fine.
Deleteamazing! These guys strike a surprising resemblance to my 15mm Freikorps ACW arty...if you break out the magnifying glass.
ReplyDeleteMust be the hats...
DeleteThey look great, you have done them proud, So glad you have been able to use them, and they have found a good home!
ReplyDeleteThe filled a crucial shortage and I really enjoyed painting them, the last set I painted was in the 80's! (The rest of the Airfix guns on my table were all painted by persons unknown)
Deletea bit rushed is like everything in the ACW, so they will fit in well
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Of course these dats 20's are my 6's...
DeleteFine additions to your collection Ross…
ReplyDeleteI do like the old Airfix artillery set.
All the best. Aly
It might be nostalgia but they have a charm many new sets can't match.
