Ollie: Progress Report

Managed to do some assembly this morning and painting this afternoon.

Tomorrow I'll add the shields and cases of feathered javelins and 2 crew.

Not bad so far I think and it distracted me from the pains in my knee and calf!

  1. Ross Mac,

It looks even better now that you’ve begun painting it!

    1. The sculptor did an amazing job. That hard resin is a bitch to work with though, at least until you figure what tooos work on it.

  3. Must be one of the best war elephant models I've ever seen. I'm in awe of the skill with which you've painted it.

  10. It's too bad the Elephant & Castle pub in Halifax closed down.

    1. Hmm, I downed a pint or two at the Elephant & Castle in Ottawa years ago. Never heard of one here.

  11. Something seemed off about the raised right fore leg. Had to look up elephant skeleton to see what was wrong. Elephants walk on their toes, which I knew, but the the wrist joint is wrong. The joint is too high on the leg. The only reason I noticed is that I do imaging of varies types over the last 30 years and while 4 legged mammals are slightly different, we all have the same basic anatomy underneath. Still nicely animated elephant and nicely painted.

    1. Thanks Doug. Of course I had to go looking, esp at Indian elephants, and I found a few where the proportions aren't far off BUT not a single photo of an elephant lifting his leg that high and that much forward except when rearing up on its hind legs and waving both front legs.

Oh well, I'm glad I view my guys as 'toys' not 'models'! :)
