First non-solo game of the year.
The scenario was improvised, a small force holding the high ground against a larger force, with reinforcements arriving to help the defence.
Rather than haul my stuff in town, we used Les' 10mm Pendraken 18thC figures, but this time, instead of treating each stand of 10mm figures as a stand and measuring in cm, we treated each 3 stand battalion as a "stand", and measured in inches.
It worked great! We got a fair number of Les' units out and managed to set up, play till we agreed to call it, and then pack away, in about 4 hours. That was very encouraging as was the feel of the game.
That is a lovely table with the little fellows. I like the way the cavalry (far left) are irregularly placed on the base, giving a sense of motion.
ReplyDeleteThose are some of Les' Hussars. His cuirassiers and Dragoons are more orderly.,,:)
DeleteThose 10mm look nice but I prefer bigger figures (for the sake of my eyes)
ReplyDeleteWell, even without miniature smoke I had trouble telling our guys from his guys, heck I occasionally had trouble telling infantry from cavalry at a distance. But Les likes them and I'm happy to play with them.
DeleteAlways great to see a Tricorne era game--I always liked the effect that 10mm figs give in periods like this, too. Sounds like you've stumbled into something with that stand and inch conversion (sometimes necessity is the mother of invention).
ReplyDeleteThe rules were designed to be pragmatic rather than precise and one of his batallions was just a bit bigger than 1 of my 40mm stand so it seemed like an easy fudge. The downside was that his 72 man brigades looked a lot more believable when moving and shooting than my 18x 40mm battalions do on a similar frontage. At least I have my 20mm ACW...,
