For over 20 years this BMC staff officer from the Gettysburg set, has been patiently waiting for a uniform and a chance to deliver his message. Today he is excited, he's been glued to a base and measured for a new coat (of paint). It looks like his time is nearly here. Perhaps I should name him Colonel Job.
Meanwhile, out of a host of applicants, these seven have been selected to serve on General Douglas' staff, delivering orders to Brigadiers. Sadly, 7 poker chips are now surplus to requirements again.
Lastly, the Black Hat Brigade has been based and a new officer appointed to command them. He also needs a uniform but the Winter campaigning season is upon us so there will be more time available for painting and playing in the months ahead.

Always a lot going on here, Ross. I hope the courier gets a uniform soon. Its cold! He is turning blue.
ReplyDeleteHe must be aging, he turned grey this morning....
DeleteMajor DeLay.
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteI have figures like that patiently waiting on the painting tray or hidden away in boxes .
ReplyDeleteOpening the cupboard can be a disturbing experience.
DeleteI look forward to seeing Col Job painted and on the battlefield..
ReplyDeleteHe's part way these, not sure he'll be done for Christmas but not long after.
DeleteThe Patience of Job is sometimes required amongst Staff Officers. I should know, I am one. Love the Black Hats and I like the new 3x3 bases with four figures each, too. Gives one pause. My grid, however, seems to like being 5", since I am using foamboard instead of wood or cloth. Hmmm. More thinking is required.

Its not the size it's the simplicity of moving and the reduction in temptation to delve into details when trying to do a quick game.
DeleteInteresting old pics Ross. I like the Col.Job figure, very smart.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun having a friend with similar interests just down the road.
DeleteAlways interesting to see 54mm collections evolving, new recruits, etc.
ReplyDeleteMichael
It never stops, not voluntarily anyway.
DeleteRooting for naked Gettysburg guy. It's cold out, the man needs clothes.
ReplyDeleteHe's got a nice grey wool suit now, but he's bare headed, should I knit him a touque?
DeleteI'm sure I've got some naked lead that goes back 20 years--but thinking about it makes me feel too old. Better to see yours!
ReplyDeleteApart from resuscitating old toys, I think 45 years was the longest a 25/30mm wargame casting I bought had to wait for paint!
DeleteHaving enjoyed my 54 mm figures in my childhood/youth, I have recently come back to and expanded them as I think that they are perfect for two extreme ends of the spectrum: skirmish and brigade/divisional levels. Sounds to me like I'll be following in your shoes with this Ross!
ReplyDeleteThose grainy photos of your Civil War armies look great. Do I gather, reading between the lines, that we are soon to get more with Col. Job and his mates?
Regards, James
Those turn of the century Volley & Bayonet ACW games were a new experience for me. I was still playing 15mm ACW games with 24+ figure units. It was a disruption in my universe!
DeleteI want to get a little work done on my 54's before they resume hostilities but they will be back ere long.
